VOLUNTEER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I become a volunteer?
If you are interested in volunteering, fill out the Volunteer Application and attend a new volunteer orientation. The volunteer documents may be emailed to email@example.com. They may also be returned by regular mail or brought to the St. Vincent de Paul Administration Offices, located at 124 W. Apple St, Dayton OH 45402. Once we review your completed volunteer packet, you will be invited to attend the next new volunteer orientation.
What happens after I attend the orientation?
Your application will be kept on file, and you will be contacted when there is an open volunteer position for you to consider. Volunteers are matched to positions based on our current needs and the applicant’s skills, interests and availability.
How often do I have to volunteer?
You may volunteer as little as one time, or as often as several times a week. We are grateful for the time and expertise you can give us.
Can I drop in to volunteer whenever I want?
We truly appreciate all of the individuals and groups that are willing to share their time and talents with us to support our mission. However, to provide an opportunity for everyone to volunteer and for all volunteer positions to be adequately covered, we require that all volunteers schedule through the volunteer office.
How old do you have to be to volunteer?
All volunteers must be at least 14 to volunteer onsite. Volunteers who are 14-17 must be accompanied by an adult. We have offsite opportunities that are available for interested people who are under the age of 14.
Can I complete required community service hours with St. Vincent de Paul?
Yes. Community Service and WEP hours are scheduled directly with shelter supervisors. Please call 937-222-7349 ext. 105 to set up these hours.
How does a group set up a volunteer opportunity?
Typically, groups of 3-6 volunteers can be scheduled to assist with one of our regular volunteer opportunities. Groups to 10-12 members may be scheduled for special and/or seasonal projects. These projects are scheduled as needed.
If your group is interested in volunteering one time only or has a specific project/idea in mind to provide to St. Vincent de Paul, the group leader should contact the Manager of Volunteers to discuss potential opportunities and/or projects.
If your group wants to volunteer on an ongoing basis, the group leader or a representative will need to complete the group volunteer documents and attend a new volunteer orientation, on behalf of the group. Once the group leader has attended the orientation, the group may be placed on the schedule for an available recurring opportunity.
